Healthy Food Recipes: Ring Sausage
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Additional Time: 10 minutes (resting)
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 6-8
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs ground pork
- 1 cup cooked quinoa
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Steps to Cook:
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, cooked quinoa, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and maple syrup. Pour the sauce mixture into the pork mixture and mix until evenly distributed.
-
Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
-
Divide the sausage mixture into 6-8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ring on the prepared baking sheet, making sure the rings are about 1-inch thick.
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the top and sides of the sausage rings with the oil mixture.
-
Bake the sausage rings in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until they are cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
-
Remove the sausage rings from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Cook’s Note:
- You can use a variety of ground meats, such as turkey or chicken, instead of pork for a leaner option.
- For a spicier flavor, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture.
- Serve the ring sausage with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
- The cooked sausage rings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- When reheating frozen sausage rings, make sure to thaw them in the refrigerator overnight before heating them in the oven or on the stovetop.
