Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh clams, scrubbed and rinsed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Steps to Cook

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large baking dish or cast-iron skillet, arrange the scrubbed and rinsed clams in a single layer.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and minced garlic. Drizzle the garlic-butter mixture over the clams.
  4. Pour the white wine around the clams, being careful not to disturb their arrangement.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped parsley and red pepper flakes (if using) over the clams.
  6. In a separate small bowl, mix together the panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture over the clams.
  8. Season the dish with salt and black pepper to taste.
  9. Bake the clams in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the clams have opened up and the topping is golden brown.
  10. Remove the baked clams from the oven and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Cook’s Note

  • Make sure to discard any clams that do not open during the baking process, as they may be unsafe to eat.
  • You can adjust the amount of garlic, parsley, and red pepper flakes to suit your personal taste preferences.
  • Serve the baked clams immediately, while they are hot and fresh. Provide crusty bread or garlic bread for dipping in the delicious juices.
  • This dish pairs well with a crisp white wine or a light salad.
  • For a heartier meal, you can serve the baked clams over a bed of linguine or spaghetti.
  • To save time, you can prepare the garlic-butter mixture and the breadcrumb-Parmesan topping in advance, then assemble and bake the dish when ready to serve.
