Grilled Swiss Cheese Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Additional Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of sourdough or brioche bread
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps to Cook:

1. Prepare the Bread:

a. Lightly toast the bread slices until they are golden brown. b. Allow the toasted bread to cool slightly.

2. Make the Filling:

a. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, dried oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated. b. Spread the butter mixture evenly on one side of each slice of bread.

3. Assemble the Sandwiches:

a. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on the buttered side of four of the bread slices. b. Top the cheese with the remaining four slices of bread, buttered side facing the cheese.

4. Grill the Sandwiches:

a. Preheat a grill pan or griddle over medium heat. b. Place the assembled sandwiches on the preheated grill pan or griddle. c. Cook the sandwiches for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. d. Flip the sandwiches carefully using a spatula to ensure even cooking.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

a. Remove the grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches from the grill pan or griddle. b. Allow the sandwiches to rest for 2-3 minutes before slicing in half diagonally. c. Serve the grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches hot and enjoy!

Cook’s Note:

  • For a crispier crust, you can brush the outside of the bread with a small amount of melted butter or olive oil before grilling.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese, such as Gruyère or cheddar, to create your own unique grilled cheese variations.
  • Pair the grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches with a side salad, tomato soup, or your favorite accompaniment for a complete meal.
  • Leftover grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven before serving.
